Robert Kawuki has been conducting crop research in Uganda since 2000; initially worked on soybean between 2000 to 2002, before taking up a position at IITA to work on banana entomology (2003 to 2004). Since 2005, Robert is employed by National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) as a cassava breeder and based at Namulonge. Robert has played a lead role towards the release of nine cassava varieties (2011 to 2015) by NARO; one variety NAROCASS 1 has been widely disseminated by national programmes of Tanzania and Rwanda. These varieties were released at the peak of cassava brown streak disease epidemic. In addition, Robert is an academic supervisor to a number of graduate students both from Uganda and from the region. Robert cherishes science communication and has thus, published extensively in a number of refereed journals.
